Jingyang Luo

Jingyang Luo, is a professor, doctoral supervisor, and vice dean of the School of Environment at Hohai University. Originally from Xiangtan, Hunan, he graduated in 2016 with a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Tongji University, where he was mentored by Professor Chen Yingguang. He joined the School of Environment at Hohai University the same year.
He has received several accolades, including the Jiangsu Province "Qinglan Project" Excellent Young Backbone Teacher, Jiangsu Environmental Science Society "Young Scientist," the 2023 "Outstanding Young Scientist Award" from the RINENG Engineering Frontier Journal (with only 10-15 recipients globally each year), and recognition as a member of the "Huang Danian-style Teacher Team" at national universities. He is also a "Dayu Scholar" at Hohai University and a young talent in his field. Additionally, he serves as a youth committee member for the International Water Association (IWA) and a youth expert member of the Chinese Biogas Society.
In the past five years, he has led over ten national and provincial research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (both general and youth programs), Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation, Jiangsu Province's Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Technology Innovation Special Fund (sub-project), and the National Key R&D Program. His research focuses on enhancing traditional wastewater and sludge treatment processes and addressing the industry’s need for new pollutant management, specifically in developing low-carbon biological enhancement technologies for wastewater and assessing ecological risks and control strategies for emerging contaminants.
He has published over 80 high-level papers as the first or corresponding author in environmental journals such as Environmental Science & Technology and Water Research (with over 3,900 total citations, including 8 ESI highly cited papers and 3 hot papers). He holds more than 10 authorized national invention patents and has contributed to the compilation of 3 textbooks/monographs, including a key textbook for Jiangsu Province's higher education during the "13th Five-Year Plan." He serves as the associate editor for Frontiers in Microbiology and is a youth editorial board member for several journals, including Chinese Chemical Letters, Journal of Hazardous Materials Advances, Results in Engineering, and China Water Supply and Drainage.
