Dr. Sandra Pinto (ORCID: 0000-0002-3205-9459) is a scientist at the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB), IST, University of Lisbon. Dr. Sandra Pinto in 2013 completed her PhD in Chemistry at the University of Lisbon. Having worked, during her PhD, at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel.
She does research in Medicinal chemistry, Cell biophysics (with particular focusing on confocal and two-photon microscopy) and Microbiology. Her main line of research is focused on the development of innovative therapies for drug-resistant diseases based on polymeric particles and/or extracellular vesicles. Her recent work on novel antimicrobial therapies resulted in several publications (e.g. Biomater. Sci., 2022, 10, 5197), communications and in the discovery of 1 new potential antimicrobial lead, having a national and international patent applications [Portuguese Patent Nº. 116802, (filled in 01.10.2020). International Patent, Nº. 50030, (filled in 01.10.2021)].
From 2019-2022, she was awarded 3 national research grants as PI or co-PI. She is also currently supervising 2 PhD students and 3 master students,
