Celia Mayer
University of Santiago de Compostela
Dr. Celia Mayer is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Foundation
Health Research Institute of Santiago de Compostela (FIDIS),
Spain. Celia holds a BS in Biology and a PhD in Microbiology both
from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. Celia’s research
is focused on bacterial biofilms and cell-to-cell communication
systems in different bacteria, including multidrug-resistant bacteria
such as Acinetobacter baumannii, or Escherichia coli. Last years
she has been working in different labs with broad experience in
biofilms, including the LEPABE from Universidade do Porto and the
NBIC from the UK. She is interested in the role of this cell-to-cell communication system in
bacterial virulence, focusing on different approaches for removing, and/or preventing
biofilm and biofouling production.
Dr. Celia is currently a co-guest editor hosting a biofilm special issue “Novel and Improved
Strategies for the Detection, Diagnosis and Treatment of Biofilm-Associated Infections” in
Antibiotics (MDPI):
