Dr. Fortwendel is an associate professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science. He had obtained Ph.D. from University of Cincinnati in 2000. He had worked a post-doctoral fellow first at the University of Cincinnati and then at Duke University Medical Center. His laboratory was the first to adapt a portable, DNA-free system for CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene mutation in Aspergillus fumigatus. More recently, the laboratory has employed this new tool to begin the exploration of antifungal resistance mechanisms in the Aspergilli tool.
